Alison Scheide: Web 2.0 Tool

At the start of this assignment I was quite unfamiliar with Web 2.0 tools, or so I thought.  When I was looking back at past assignment samples I remembered that in EDET 603 we did an assignment about Web 2.0 tools, I just hadn't remembered them being called that.

When I did my part of the EDET 603 assignment I focused on assessment tools, which would be difficult to use for this assignment since they usually required a log-in.  I looked what what my peers had contributed to the assignment and found Creately.  Creately is a Web 2.0 tool that allows for the creation of various types on Ven Diagrams.

In my role as an Exploratory Advisor I often work with students who don't know what major they want to be in but know what their interests are. Being able to show how majors are related and grouped together is extremely useful. Our current materials have the majors broken down by College/School which may not be helpful in a diverse College such as the College of Arts and Sciences, which houses majors from Anthropology to Biochemistry to Theatre.  Grouping majors by their discipline/focus helps students make connections.

I had made this Ven Diagram a while ago at work, but only on paper. I thought that Creately could be a great way to translate this into a digital format.  The "Degrees of Health" circle is an established group of majors, promoted by USC Columbia.
